Books

Well Worth a Shindy: The Architectural and Philosophical History of the Old Well at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . iUniverse Press, 2004. The book presents extensive research in the UNC Chapel Hill university archives on the commissioning of the Old Well in 1897 by President Edwin Alderman and its restoration by university officials in 1954. Because the Old Well is an exemplar of eighteenth-century garden structures, descended from ancient temples, I included a description of their descent through western European history, as well as a catalog of similar structures in Europe and the United States.

President Emeritus of the University of North Carolina, William Friday, wrote the foreword for Well Worth A Shindy.
